Innovation Results – Income from Sales from New Products or Rervices

Over the last 4 years, what was the income of your product or service innovations that are not more than 3 years old?
Please specify in thousands of Euros (where 1,000.00 represents one million Euro). The sum of income from sales from incremental and radical products entered here should be less than or equal to your total income.

Important terminology

  • Income from sales is the money a company earns in a specific period of time mostly from sales of products and/or services to its customers. In this question, it is asked for the revenue contribution of your innovation “youngsters” (products/services that are not older than 3 years).

When specifying the revenue contribution for one specific year, please take into account only those products/services that were launched within the time period from 3 years before that specific year until that specific year.

For example, considering an innovative product that has been launched 5 years ago. Its revenue generated during the first three years (revenues from 5 years ago to 3 years ago) has to be taken into account when calculating the revenue contribution of new products/services.

Regarding the “degree of innovation” projects can be positioned on a continuum between incremental innovations and radical innovations. It is important that you assign the innovation projects to one of these two groups it relates the most to.
  • Incremental innovations lead to small improvements to existing products, services, processes, organisational and business models. It often is an exercise in problem-solving where the goal is clear, however, the means how to get there needs to be solved. Usually, tasks of incremental innovation projects are relatively low in uncertainty and complexity, and therefore in risk.
  • Radical innovations result in totally new products, services, processes, organizational or business models. Radical innovations seek for the yet unresolved challenge to generate a significant value to the customer. Usually radical innovation projects are of high uncertainty and complexity, and therefore of high risk.
